Aggregates for the production of structural concrete
The purpose of this article is to present the Monograph entitled “Aggregates for the production of structural concrete”, commissioned by the Materials Committee of the Technical Scientific Association of Structural Concrete (ACHE). It has been drafted by a working group composed of leading national specialists from research organizations, universities, business associations and public administration. Its main objective is to compile all those significant aspects of the use of aggregates as raw material for structural concrete, with an eminently practical approach that takes into consideration the existing regulations, in order that it can serve as technical guide for the subsector of concrete and aggregates.
Vegetal fiber performance in the production of reinforced cement composites
In the complexity of today’s world, environmental concerns are increasing, creating a high pressure on the different productive sectors for sustainable activities. This trend applies to the construction industry and construction materials, targeting the search and development of alternative materials that are economically and technically competitive when compared to those traditionally found in the market and that guarantee the preservation of the environment and lower environmental impacts.
The construction sector in general and specifi cally that of fiber cement materials, focuses its efforts on the use and exploitation of vegetal fibers, as an environmentally friendly alternative of outstanding technical performance and cost-benefi t, allowing a competitiveness in the global market and in turn generating relief from the existing socio-environmental pressure. As a result of this trend, new methodologies have emerged and been optimized to contribute to the best performance in relation to the use of this lignocellulosic material as reinforcement of inorganic matrices based on cement, allowing a longer useful life and better mechanical performance of the material.

The dessication of the concreate in its early ages
The current article is destined to show how to evaluate the phenomenon of the loss of water by the concrete in its early ages and the appropriate measures to avoid the possible associated problems. It stands out that the evaporation of water from the concrete, associated nowadays in the mind of a lot of technicians with the existence of high environmental temperatures, it is not originated by them, but for the low atmospheric humidity usually associated to them in our latitudes. However, with normal air temperature, being this lower than the concrete´s one guarantees the existence of evaporation, although the fact that it reaches harmful values depends itself on the temperatures, the atmospheric humidity and, in a very important manner on the wind, whose action is fundamental to highly increase that loss of water.
Recycling and waste recovery in the Spanish cement industry (update year 2015)
This is the seventh update of the study `Recycling and waste recovery in the Spanish cement industry’, carried out by Institut Cerdà, that shows the evolution of energy and material valorization in cement plants in the last years. The regular updating of the study has the objective to become a permanent observatory regarding the situation of the cement plants that have environmental authorizations for waste valorization and, at the same time, to carry out the recycling and waste recovery inventory in the Spanish cement plants.

In this article, we want to highlight some of the common bad praxis that can be found in the works causing over costs and harming the image of the concrete pipes.
